GIG shares global sporting experience in Lima, Peru
Global event catering and hospitality specialist GIG recently participated in a Sports Economy Trade Mission to Lima, organised by the Department for International Trade (DIT).
The three-day trade mission included a meeting with the Organising Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games who welcomed the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) as part of an ongoing agreement to seek expertise from the organisers of the 2012 Olympics. The British and Peruvian governments have signed an agreement to share international best practice, given this is the first time that Peru has organised a sporting event of this scale.
During the visit, LLDC director of strategy, marketing and communications Ben Fletcher presented London's 2012 legacy strategy to the Lima 2019 Organising Committee before touring the VIDENA sports complex and other venues for the 2019 Games.
GIG was one of several British companies with expertise in delivering major sporting events who travelled to the Peruvian capital to offer guidance. GIG’s head of global sport & events, Nick Venables comments on the visit: “This was a really beneficial few days, the entire trip was well planned with a series of meetings and opportunities to talk to the team involved in organising the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Visiting host cities and venues is invaluable when it comes to tendering for work and understanding what’s involved when the time comes.”
“It’s important to GIG that we play our own part in delivering a legacy, that’s we always try to support local caterers and organising committees to plan and deliver complex catering operations for a variety of user groups including athletes, games family and the wider workforce. We were more than happy to share our experience, not only from London 2012, but the numerous global sporting events that we’ve provided catering and hospitality services to,” concludes Venables.
Other British event suppliers attending the trade mission included: ES Global Sport & Events, Off to Work, Clean Event, Sports Tech and CSM Live.
